Introduce Yourself! (or "What's This Board For?")

Post by AlexBC »

Hey folks! Welcome to Friendly Local Nerds!

We're so glad you're here and we hope you have a good time in our community. If you want to, we encourage you to post an introductory topic in this board and let us know a bit about yourself! This can be as simple or detailed as you'd like; you can just say you're new and you're glad to be here or you could go more in-depth and share some of your interests, some of your histories with your hobbies or things about you - it's all up to you. You can always have a peek at some of the other introduction topics if you don't know what to say.

We do want to remind everyone, however, that the posts and topics made here are public and are viewable to search engines and users that aren't logged in. We don't recommend sharing things like your exact town or city, or identifiable details about your life. This goes double-so for youth; don't go sharing anything that can help anyone find you. If it can be used to look you up on Facebook - don't post it for everyone to see.

If you want to share details, we recommend keeping it a little vague on the forum and exchanging details or outside contact info with people you trust through private messages. Things like "I'm around the Vancouver area" or "I'm in rural Nova Scotia" are better than exact locations. "I'm a teenager" is better than your exact birthdate. Asides from the pronouns you want everyone to use for you, we don't require any specific, public information from you and you are free to choose what you would like to share.

All that being said, welcome to Friendly Local Nerds.ca! We can't wait to meet you!

P.S. oh - and if you've left for whatever reason and would like to post an "I'm back" thread, we welcome those too! ;) The Introductions board can also be used to post hiatuses or farewells if for whatever reason you decide to take a break from our forum as a whole, though we'll be sad to see you go.
