[REMINDER] Requirements to Post

Post by AlexBC »

Friendly Local Nerds maintains several directories and showcases of Canadian-specific nerd things for our members and visitors to use. We encourage our members to post as many Canadian shows and events as they can find to help expand our directories - regardless of how they know these events. This topic serves as a reminder of our policies from the Directory Rules and Community Handbook topics concerning how to post a new listing to the directory and a list of the information each new topic should contain.

Information to Include

All topics must contain the following information in the first post of the topic. Please include only the basic information and put your reviews, questions or opinions in a reply to your new topic once it's approved.
  1. Official name of the event - in both the post and the topic title.
  2. Links to a website, event listing and/or social media - or some alternative, if not available.
  3. The date(s) and time(s) of the event - ideally, dates should also be in the topic title.
  4. The location(s) of the event - or the links, if online-only and availible.
  5. Demographic(s) of event - what type of nerds does this cater to?
  6. Format of event - is it vendors only, a full con, something else?
  7. Cost and Fees - how much does it cost to attend?
Other suggestions - but not requirements - is to include information on things potential attendees might want to know. Is food available on-premise? (and is it overpriced?) What's parking like? Is the location wheelchair accessible? Can attendees submit panels or workshops they want to run? Are there costume contests? How often does the event happen? You can also post images, such as logos or event photos, but please note that your personal reviews or experiences - positive or negative - should be included in your reply and left out of the first post.

We also suggest including links to things like the schedule, guests pages, where vendors can buy tables or other important information.

Rules & Info for Creating a New Topic

Any topics you submit to the Show & Convention Directory must include the above information and obey the following rules. Please note there are some additional rules and information about other things - such as how to claim your business' topic - in the Directory Rules topic.
  • You must have a minimum of ten posts on your account to create a new topic. Both the creation of new topics you make and your replies to other peoples' existing topics, from anywhere on the forum, are counted towards the ten.
  • All topics are held in a moderation queue to ensure they contain the proper information. Topics are usually approved the same day. You may be contacted through the on-site messaging system to add more info before a topic can be approved.
  • Each event, show or convention may only have one topic for itself and must reuse them. No making a new topic for next year's event. Duplicate topics found in the moderation queue will be denied approval and any accidental approvals will be merged with the original topic.
  • Non-Canadian events cannot be posted. This includes online events and international shows Canadians sell or attend. International shows may be discussed elsewhere.
  • All topics must include the appropriate prefix. Please don't make us chase you down about it.
Special Reminders

These are specific rules mentioned in the Directory Rules and reminded here again;
  • Topics must be reused for the same event's next dates. You cannot make a new topic for every time a show runs. We expect you to edit the title and first post to include the new dates and any new information. This is to help keep the directory organized, to avoid flooding the board with topics that are all virtually the same and to ensure that attendees' experiences are all collected in the same place.
  • Please keep posts and titles up to date. We highly recommend having the dates in the title, as well as the first post. But once a show is over, we expect you to edit the topic/title to include either the next event or remove the dates until the new ones are available. If old dates are still up or the topic has not been updated in a while and the original poster cannot be contacted, please report the topic's first post to the moderators using the report button and we'll edit it.
