[REMINDER] Requirements to Post

Friendly Local Nerds maintains several directories and showcases of Canadian-specific nerd things for our members and visitors to use. We encourage our members to post as many Canadian businesses as they can find to help expand our directories - regardless of how they know these businesses. This topic serves as a reminder of our policies from the Directory Rules and Community Handbook topics concerning how to post a new listing to the directory and a list of the information each new topic should contain.

Information to Include

All topics must contain the following information in the first post of the topic. Please include only the basic information and put your reviews, questions or opinions in a reply to your new topic once it's approved.

1. Official name of the business - in both the post and the topic title.
2. Links to a website, e-commerce store and/or social media - or some alternative, if not available.
3. The location(s) of the business - or where it ships from, if online-only.
4. What the business sells - or what services they provide.
5. Any sister locations - please link to any other topics if available.

Other suggestions - but not requirements - are to include information on things potential customers might want to know. Is the location hard to find, offering curbside pickup or charging for parking? Is it wheelchair accessible? Do they have gaming tables, a snack bar or a hard to find product line? Do they offer free shipping after a certain amount? Are they BIPOC or queer owned? What are their upcoming events or regular schedule? You can also post images, such as logos or event photos, but please note that your personal reviews or experiences - positive or negative - should be included in your reply and left out of the first post.

Rules & Info for Creating a New Topic

Any topics you submit to the Store & Business Directory must include the above information and obey the following rules. Please note there are some additional rules and information about other things - such as how to claim your business' topic - in the Directory Rules topic.

• You must have a minimum of ten posts on your account to create a new topic. Both the creation of new topics you make and your replies to other peoples' existing topics, from anywhere on the forum, are counted towards the ten.
• All topics are held in a moderation queue to ensure they contain the proper information. Topics are usually approved the same day. You may be contacted through the on-site messaging system to add more info before a topic can be approved.
• Each store, seller, business or service may only have one topic for itself. Duplicate topics found in the moderation queue will be denied approval and any accidental approvals will be merged with the original topic. The only expectation is that separate locations of the same business may make separate topics for each if they wish.
• Non-Canadian businesses cannot be posted. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis for those living or working abroad. Canadian locations of internationally-owned businesses are allowed.
• All topics must include the appropriate prefix. Please don't make us chase you down about it.
