[REMINDER] Be Responsible and Safe!

Post by AlexBC »

This is a reminder that Friendly Local Nerds is not liable or responsible for any meetups or transactions that may occur over or because of our website. We are providing a space for Canadian consumers and creators to make exchanges, get exposure and find what they need, but the responsibility is on you to ensure that it is a safe transaction.

COVID-19 NOTICE: during this time of uncertainty and struggle, we would like to remind everyone to take extra precautions and be mindful when meeting up or exchanging things. Clean anything you might send or hand to someone else, maintain social distancing if meeting up and be careful.

Please keep in mind the following reminders;
  • Ultilize the Good Transactions & Trades topic to see if the person you are buying from or trading with has had successful transactions before.
  • If you are meeting in person, meet in public or at a safe, monitored location such as a community centre or a police station. Don't go into people's houses if you do meet at an address.
  • If you are meeting in person, pay in cash and be wary of chargebacks that may happen over PayPal or other online exchanges if you use a card or account.
  • If you are paying for something online, use an official platform or invoicing to protect yourself and the seller. Buy from an Etsy listing instead just sending money for a discussed product. Use invoices through PayPal or Sqaure instead of sending to "friends or family".
  • Be wary of anyone trying to convince you to ignore safe practices. If they are insisting that paying by "friends or family" saves you both money or that "this is usually how they do it", walk away. A good seller or buyer will work with you to make sure it works for both of you.
If you suspect you have been scammed or have had a seller or buyer disappear, please contact an administrator immediately. We are not responsible for any lost items or money, but if proof can be given that someone is scamming the community, we will take action in the ways that we can.
